Mikaela Shiffrin produced an impressive final run to finish a career best eighth in the giant slalom held in Semmering. Shiffrin, who had been sick the last few days, vaulted to 10th in the World Cup overall standings.
Teen Mikaela Shiffrin, fourth after the opening run, was charging for back-to-back FIS Alpine World Cup slalom wins, when she got stuck leaning back, hooked an edge, hiked and eventually straddled in the night final.
Home town favorite Kathrin Zettel failed to get the win by only .10 seconds. It’s her 6th podium this season and kept her third in the Cup standings.
A slow second run dropped Tina Maze into third, missing the top spot by .20 seconds, but she still leads the World Cup points overall by more than 400 points.
