This will be the 20th edition of the championships (including the two editions that were renamed the ‘IAAF World Road Running Championships’) and Denmark is the 16th country to host the World Half Marathon Championships. The event is being held in Scandinavia for just the second time ever, 20 years after Oslo hosted it. It’s also just the second time in the history of the championships that it is being held in spring. Brussels in 2002 was the only other World Half Marathon Championships that was held at this time of year.

Lucas Carr is proud to be Boston born and bred, and ran the 2013 Boston Marathon to benefit the Boston Bruins Foundation. He had just crossed the finish line when the bombings happened. The former Army Ranger, who joined the armed forces following 9/11, was reminded of a Middle East war zone and quickly sprang into action applying tourniquets to the injured. In 1973, David McGillivray made a personal commitment to run the Boston Marathon every year in tribute to his late grandfather, and has been the last person to cross the finish line every year since 1988 when he became the legendary event’s race director. And although his efforts were turned elsewhere on April 15, 2013, David fulfilled his promise to keep running and finished his 41st Boston Marathon 11 days later.
