The 2013 Titlis Glacier Mountain World Women’s Curling Championship will be held at the Volvo Sports Centre in Riga, Latvia from March 16 to 24. It marks the first time that Latvia has hosted the World Women’s Championship. This event is also a qualifying event for the 2014 Winter Olympics, awarding points to countries based on performance at the worlds.
The “Queen” is back, despite her 18 month absence from competing, the 2009 World Champ and 2010 Olympic champ Kim Yuna (KOR) is the World champ yet again! With 218.31 points, Yuna won over 2012 champ Carolina Kostner (ITA) by 20.42 and Moa Asada (JPN) came in 3rd.

Racing in the Men’s’ qauterfinal Tomas Kraus (CZE) lost control on a jump and was sent to the ground hard. Kraus was later taken to a hospital. The heat winner John Teller (USA) took 3rd overall at the championships.

During the 5000m relay of 2013 Speed Skating Short Track World Championships, Team CAN was given the win after a Korean skater bumped into a Canadian in the 9th lap, nearly causing catastrophe. CAN finished with a time of 6:51.37.
Even though Shim Suk Hee (KOR) walked away with the win, it still wasn’t enough to take down Wang Meng (CHN). Meng didn’t finish the final due to a penally, but was still able to win the overall with 68 points.
Racing in the 3rd heat of the men’s quarter finals, skaters Charles Hamelin and Viktor Knoch collided into one another during a turn and were sent into the wall hard. Soon after, Victor An and Sjinkie Knegt collided at the finish line
