16 year old Aaron Blunck looked like he was putting together a wining run until he lost his balance after his final trick and hit the ground hard. Blunck would finish 6th in the competition.
Marie Martinod (FRA) crashed in her 2nd run after hitting the top of the halfpipe and loosing a ski. Martinod was able to walk away under her own power and finished 5th overall.
Anais Caradeux (SUI) finished with a best score of 80.6 in her first run, narrowly beating out 3rd place Ayana Onozuka (JPN) by just .2 points.
Virginie Faivre (SUI) finished with a best score of 83.8 in her seconds run, beating out 2nd place Anais Caradeux (FRA). Faivre was previously the world champion in 2009.
17 year old Torin Yater-Wallace finished with a score of 95.6, losing to fellow American Davis Wise by just .6 points. Yater-Wallace finished 1st in his previous Halpipe event at the World Cup.
David Wise won his first Halfpipe title when he finished with a score of 96.2 in his first run. Although this is his first world title, Wise is a four time U.S Champion.

On his second run the teenage sensation Ayumu Hirano (JPN) posted a 87.40, which was good enough for second, 8.18 points behind the great Shaun White (USA).
Snowboard star Shaun White (USA) gets his 5th career win with his second run scoring 95.58 points, he was the only one to crack 90 points.
Louie Vito (USA) couldn’t improve upon his first run, but it was good enough to put him on the podium with 79.58 points, making it by 1.78 points.
In his first run Spencer Shaw (USA) wipes out hard, but he manages to get back up and finish in 10th place.
The lone European in the final, Queralt Castellet (ESP) hits the roof hard in her second run and has to sit out on her third run.
Once again, Hanna Teter, who has won just about everything, fails to take the top spot in the US Open. She roared back with a big second run for 82.13 points, but was 2.32 shy of the lead.

Although he improved with each run, Taku Hiraoka (JPN) fell .5 points short of victory, settling for silver.
Arielle Gold (USA) wins the gold, the first American to win the Halfpipe championship since Kim Stacey in 1999.
As the lone American in the final, Spencer Shaw had two weak runs and finishes 12th, 65.25 points off the podium.
Holly Crawford (AUS) the defending champ takes Silver this year, with 77.25 in her second run, 1.75 points behind.
Sophie Rodriguez (FRA) takes 3rd, scoring 72.50 on her first Halfpipe run, out of first by 6.5.
Judges each give the rider’s completed run an overall impression score. The runs are evaluated using several criteria including the sequence of tricks the rider performs, the amount of risk in the run and how the rider uses the pipe.

It’s the 30th Anniversary of the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships.
The halfpipe competition takes place in a half-cylinder-shaped course dug deep into the hill. Using speed gained on the slope, skiers come up over the rim of the pipe and perform acrobatic aerial tricks.
The FIS Snowboarding World Championships is the world championship organized by the FIS for Snowboarding. It was first held in 1996 and is now held every odd year. As with Halfpipe, Big Air is a judged event.
