World Cup leader Katinka Hosszu (HUN) continued her reign of dominance, finishing with a winning time of 56.58 over 2nd place Alicia Coutts (AUS). Coutts was leading at the 75m mark but a late push from Hosszu won the race.

Thomas Shields (USA) finished with a time of 49.01, beating out favorites Chad Le Clos (RSA) and Steffen Deibler (GER). Shields was the silver medalist in last year’s World Championships in Istanbul.

Roland Schoeman (RSA) beat the current world record holder, Steffen Deibler (GER), with a time of 22.05. This was the 2nd win of the day for Schoeman, as he also won the 50m Breaststroke.

Chad Le Clos (RSA) finished with a winning time of 1:49.90. Clos was the winner of the 200m Butterfly at the 2012 Olympics.

Sarah Sjostrom (SWE) picked up her 2nd career World Championship gold medal, finishing with a winning time of 56.53. American Dana Vollmer finished 3rd.

Two time Olympic silver medalist, Christine Magnuson, finished with a time of 26.08 over Kendyl Stewart. Magnuson will be making her second World Championship appearance.

Eugene Godsoe won with a winning time of 23.29 over 2nd place Matt Grevers. Godsoe’s time was the 9th fastest time this year, earning him a spot on his first world championship team.
