Run As One: Director Irene Davis, Spaulding National Running Center

As Director of the Spaulding National Running Center, Irene Davis was volunteering at a medical tent near the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon. Immediately after the explosions, the tent became a mass casualty center. Irene now uses that first-hand experience at the center to help patients address the new issues they face in understanding how to learn to walk and run again. The center also helps to retrain those who have lost a limb, and was the home to several bombing victims during their rehabilitation.

Run As One: Eric Goralnick, Brigham and Women’s Hospital

Dr. Eric Goralnick, an emergency room doctor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, was a block away from the marathon when he learned about the bombing.  By the time he arrived at the ER, the staff was already in motion. The hospital’s personnel regularly undergo drills and training for emergency events, and on that fateful day, put all of their practice into play. This year, Dr. Goralnick plans to support the hospital’s team and honor those who were injured in last year’s bombings by running the 2014 Boston Marathon.
