Racing bid 38, Thomas Biesemeyer, was looking forward to crossing the finish on his second run, before losing control while speeding through a difficult gate. Top skier Svindal (NOR) and Innerhofer (ITA) did not finish.
It looked like Romed Baumann (AUT) was going to walk away with the 4th spot, until he was able to make up time lost at the bottom of the hill. Baumann earned Austria its first men’s medal at this year’s world championships. His total time was 1:58.

Ted Ligety (USA) picked up his 2nd championship title after finishing the SC with a time of 2:56.96, beating 2nd place Kostelic by over 1 second. This title win makes up for the previous two SC events Ligety was unable to finish.
