Cyclists who win a stage of the Tour de France stand triumphantly on the podium, positioned between two attractive podium girls. Upon being handed a prize, such as a stuffed animal or flowers, the cyclist kisses the podium girls on the cheek.
Or at least that is what is supposed to happen.
After winning Stage 2 of the Tour de France on Sunday, Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali leaned in for his kiss from the second podium girl, only to have her turn away because she had not yet handed him his prize, a stuffed lion.
Nibali tried to casually play it off, adjusting his collar before kissing his stuffed lion.
It was the first Tour de France stage victory for Nibali. Now he knows for next time.
