COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 28, 2014) – The U.S. beach team of April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings claimed their third gold medal on the 2014 FIVB World Tour at the Stavanger Grand Slam in Norway, on Saturday.

Seeded No. 1, Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Walsh Jennings (Saratoga, Calif.) defeated Spain’s No. 5 Liliana Fernandez and Elsa Baquerizo in the final, 21-12, 21-15 to add Stavanger gold to their 2014 wins at the Fuzhou Open and Moscow Grand Slam.

“The way my heart has been racing all day and the way we battled all week is a culmination of our hard work through the ups and downs,” Walsh Jennings said in an FIVB release. “We played steady and we played with fire and a lot of heart.”

To get to the finals, Ross and Walsh Jennings defeated Slovakia’s No. 19 Natalia Dubovcova and Dominika Nestarcova in the semifinals, 21-14, 17-21, 15-10.

“We played great together,” Ross said. “I love this place, the atmosphere is amazing and the fans are so into it.”

The U.S. beach team of Sean Rosenthal and Phil Dalhausser claimed its first gold medal of the 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour at the Stavanger Grand Slam in Norway, on Sunday.

Seeded No. 1, Rosenthal (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Dalhausser (Ormond Beach, Fla.) defeated Brazil’s No. 14 Ricardo Santos and Alvaro Filho, 21-16, 21-16 to earn Viking swords and a gold medal. It was the United States’ second gold medal of the weekend after April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings won the women’s tournament on Saturday.

“It feels amazing for Phil and I to get our first win this year and it feels like we are getting better and better,” Rosenthal said in an FIVB release. “We had a tough week last week and Phil was really sick. This week we were back and got our first win.

“I started playing on the World Tour in 2006 and that year I came here for the first time and saw the swords. They are the best trophies in all of beach volleyball and now I’ve got one.”

The next stop of the 2014 World Tour is the Gstaad Grand Slam from July 9-13 on Universal Sports from Gstaad, Switzerland. Click here for the full schedule.
