Tony Martin, member of Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step, will attempt to make history at this week’s Tour of Belgium cycling race starting May 28th. No cyclist has ever won the five-day event more than two times, yet Martin is aiming for his third straight win, after winning the 2013 Tour of Belgium by 40 seconds. The 29-year-old cyclist also became the first German ever to win the Tour of Belgium in 2012.

Martin is considered a time trial specialist, as well as taking a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London during the men’s road time trial.  After Martin won his second Tour of Belgium in 2013, he became the 10th cyclist ever to win the event two consecutive times, in addition to being the second non-Belgian to accomplish the feat.

This year’s race will also feature Philippe Gilbert of BMC Racing Team, who is viewed as one of the biggest challengers towards Martin’s potential three-peat.
