The National Lacrosse League announced that Universal Sports Network will broadcast seven NLL games over the remainder of the 2014 regular season. The NLL “Game of the Week” will be showcased live on UniversalSports.com in addition to airing on Universal Sports Network later in the week. “We are proud to be partnering with Universal Sports Network to showcase the NLL to even more fans,” said George Daniel, NLL Commissioner. “Universal Sports Network recognizes the growth and popularity of lacrosse in the U.S.,” said Robert James, Universal Sports’ Senior Vice President of Content and Communications. “Our new partnership with the NLL will tap into their incredible fan base and bring the sport to a wider audience.”
The National Lacrosse League (NLL) is a men’s professional indoor lacrosse league in North America. It currently has nine teams—four in Canada and five in the United States. Unlike other lacrosse leagues which play in the summer, the NLL plays its games in the winter and spring. Each year, the playoff teams battle for the Champion’s Cup.
The version of lacrosse played in the NLL is indoor lacrosse otherwise known as box lacrosse. The NLL plays four quarters of fifteen minutes each, with two-minute breaks between the first and second quarters and between the third and fourth quarters, and a twelve-minute break between the second and third (called half-time). The clock does not run when play is stopped. The team that has scored the most goals at the end of regulation time is declared the winner. Each team dresses twenty players, of whom two are goaltenders; the remaining eighteen are called runners.
These NLL games are available to Universal Sports Network subscribers in the United States in addition to being open to all Canadian viewers.
