Three-time Olympic champion Kenenisa Bekele (ETH) is scheduled to make his marathon debut at the Paris Marathon on Universal Sports on Sunday, April 6 at 2:30 AM ET LIVE.
Fellow Ethiopian Abdullah Shami has the fastest personal-best marathon time in the field (2:05:42).
Bekele holds the world record in both the 5,000m and 10,000m events. He won Olympic gold medals in both distances in 2008, as well as the 10,000m Olympic gold medal in 2004. He also has five World Championships gold medals.
Bekele’s long distance rival, Mo Farah, is exected to make his 26.2 mile race debut at the London Marathon on April 13 on Universal Sports. Bekele beat Farah in a dramatic sprint finish by just a second in the Great North Run half marathon last September.
