Ligety and Shiffrin Named USOC’s Athletes of the Month
After their gold medal performances at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, alpine skiers Ted Ligety and Mikaela Shiffrin were named the U.S. Olympic Committee Athletes of the Month for February.
Ligety became the first American male to win Olympic gold in giant slalom. Shiffrin, at the age of 18, became the youngest Olympic gold medalist in women’s slalom history.
This weekend Ligety is in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia to race in the FIS Alpine World Cup men’s giant slalom on Saturday and men’s slalom on Sunday. Both races will be televised on Universal Sports starting at 11 AM ET.
After competing in the women’s giant slalom on Thursday and Friday, Shiffrin will race in the women’s slalom from Are, Sweden on Saturday beginning at 1 PM ET on Universal Sports. She is the current leader in the World Cup slalom standings.
The FIS Alpine World Cup Finals begin Wednesday starting at 11 AM ET on Universal Sports with the men’s downhill.
