American Ryan Whiting Repeats as World Indoor Shot Put Champion

Ryan Whiting successfully defended his shot put title at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland on Friday. He took home the United States’ first medal on the opening day of competition.

“I came in the favorite and I’m just glad I could execute,” Whiting said. “Now I know I can do that, and I plan to be the favorite a lot in the future.”

Whiting, who recently won the U.S. indoor title, hurled 22.05 meters on his fourth attempt, besting his German rival, David Storl (21.79 meters).

Watch Whiting’s shot put final tonight starting at 8 PM ET on Universal Sports.
