After a disappointing Short Program, in which she stumbled on one of her triple jumps and placed 8th, new crowned U.S. Champion Ashley Wagner gave a stellar Free Skate performance at the 2012 World Championships in Nice, France. Skating to Black Swan, Wagner landed seven triple jumps in a near-perfect comeback performance that led the audience to a standing ovation. Wagner just missed the podium finishing fourth overall, a major jump following the short program, and helped the U.S. secure two spots in the 2013 World Championships.
“This moment is one of my favorites from the past year because it proves that it really isn’t always the medals that count. Ashley Wagner may not have won a medal, but she was still genuinely happy with her performance in the free skate and just plain grateful for a chance to contend for a medal at all after such a disappointing short program.”
