The United States not only captured the most medals at the 2012 Olympics with 104 overall, but also won the most gold medals, their highest total at a “road” Olympics. The breakdown was 46 gold, 29 silver and 29 bronze medals to be exact with Swimming and Track & Field accounting for 60 U.S. medals. And for the first time women outnumbered men on Team USA, and brought home more than half of the medals bringing home 58.

”Team USA winning the overall medal count in London was a patriotic moment for all Americans. Their inspiring performance re-emphasizes our country’s dominance of Olympic sports and puts the spotlight on all of their hard work and dedication in preparing for competition. Their success also shows how important it is for us to remain committed to the development of these sports and athletes into the future.”
