Chasing his dream to compete in the Olympics, Manuel Huerta gave the performance of a lifetime at the 2012 ITU World Triathlon in San Diego. In order to qualify for the Team USA Huerta knew he had to finish no lower than ninth. After crossing the finish line, he started counting heads in front of him with his fingers. Finishing ninth by nine seconds, the realization that he qualified for the London Games suddenly sank in and he was overjoyed. “I never, ever gave up on my dream,” Huerta said. “I battled through so many downs and ups, like many athletes, but I knew that today it was special. I was racing in my new country and I wanted to make my dream come true.”

“It’s no secret that competing in a Triathlon takes a tremendous amount of both physical and mental endurance, but to see Manuel chase and achieve a lifelong goal is what made this moment so memorable. He clearly had his Olympic dream top of mind when crossing that finish line. When he realized he made it and the emotions took over, it was great to see him overcome with so much happiness.”
