Christina Gao will compete at the 2012 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Sochi, Russia. As first alternate, Gao was invited to the Grand Prix Final after Russia’s Julia Lipnitskaia withdrew due to injury.
Gao, who was fifth at the 2012 U.S. Championships, earned her first career Grand Prix medal, silver, earlier this fall at 2012 Hilton HHonors Skate America. She followed that with a fourth-place showing at 2012 Trophee Bompard.
Gao joins reigning U.S. champion Ashley Wagner as the two American ladies entered in the event. Meryl Davis & Charlie White will look for their fourth consecutive Grand Prix Final title in ice dancing.
The 2012 Junior Grand Prix Final will be held in conjunction with the Grand Prix Final. Team USA has six entries in the event including Leah Keiser, Hannah Miller and Angela Wang (ladies), Jason Brown and Joshua Farris (men’s) and Alexandra Aldridge & Daniel Eaton (ice dancing).
The competitions are set for Dec. 6-9, 2012, at the Iceberg Skating Palace, the official competition venue of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
